"Day in the Real World" is a software-based framework designed to give students a glimpse into life as an adult. DITRW emphasizes consistent exposure to the core areas of Academic Achievement, Social Etiquette, Money Management, Positive Peer Interaction, Decision Making and more. With the help of custom software, volunteers can give students a vivid replication of a "Day in the Real World" with the ability to track student virtual bank accounts, monitor education matriculation, manage employment status and salary, accept bill payments, and much more.
Since it's inception in 2008, “Day in the Real World” has held over numerous workshops and served over 1,500 students. DITRW has also partnered with several organizations to deliver presentations and serve as volunteers. These include Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, 100 Black Men of Jacksonville, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Alpha Kappa AlphaSorority, National Society of Black Engineers, Mentoring Families and Kids, and Jacksonville Urban League.
"Day in the Real World" is a concept created by Ronnie King and CJ Wellington, along with many young professional volunteers who serve as mentors, parents, and educators in our community. We believe all of our youth have the potential to be great! And it takes guidance to help them connect the path from now to their desired future. "Day in the Real World" aims to help Bring the Reality of Life Closer to Reality!

What city is your project based out of?
What sets your Project apart from what is currently available?
Day in the Real World and its workshops reinforces "pipeline to college"concepts that all students need. But leveraging the use of technology, mentors and educators can also create and execute their own DITRW Simulations for student development. Which includes the ability to determine the scope and duration of the game. This makes the experience powerful as a program day for a large group of students, or as a volunteer-independent tool for small groups. This also allows the program to be expandable, with a logistical possibility of reaching all the students that need it!
Why are you and your team the best people on the planet to handle this project?
We are the best team on the planet to handle this project because we CARE about the students that are reached with this program! Many of whom resemble us and remind us of ourselves as youth. The volunteers of this program have given their time, money, and energy to expand the program since 2008. Expecting nothing in return but the gratification of seeing the light bulb go off in a student's heads as they navigate their way through the program. We want them to know that we believe in them and that good fortune is guaranteed to those that apply themselves!
