Shaun Thurston will create a site-specific work at MOCA Jacksonville and seek crowdfunding to support future artists

Funding Goal



The funds will support Shaun Thuston's future projects, but the artist also plans to donate half the One Spark funds to MOCA to give other artists the opportunity to be a part of Project Atrium. Now in its third year, Project Atrium’s purpose is to challenge emerging or mid-career artists with the scale of the space and push their work in new and positive directions.

Shaun Thurston and MOCA want to expand opportunities to bring in more artists who will create site-specific work at the museum.

Project Showcase Proposal

After a grand unveiling on April 9 after the One Spark opening ceremony, the artwork will will be featured prominently throughout the festival in the Haskell Atrium Gallery. Gallery guides with One Spark voting information will be provided to visitors.

What sets your Project apart from what is currently available?

Shaun Thurston has never before worked in a space like the Haskell Atrium Gallery. MOCA's Project Atrium series is the only one of its kind in the region, working with nationally known artists to create works of art exclusively for Northeast Florida.

Why are you and your team the best people on the planet to handle this project?

The collaboration between Shaun Thurston and MOCA represents the museum's integral relationship with the community and especially Downtown Jacksonville.
