Volunteer Opportunities

One Spark needs talented individuals with all kinds of skill sets to join our team as Volunteers. We'll find the right volunteer role for you based on your unique interests and skills.

Street Team

Working on the front lines of the One Spark festival itself, these Volunteers help craft the One Spark experience for enthusiasts worldwide. Most shifts are four hours and require a local address. NOTE: All Street Team Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Creator Liasons

Creator Liaisons

Creator Liaisons will ensure that all our Creators have a great experience at One Spark 2014. Liaisons will man the registration desks as Creators arrive to check-in for One Spark. Liaisons will also be on the ground during the festival making sure Creators have all their questions answered and needs met. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Answer Creator questions about One Spark
  • Check in on Creators during the festival
  • Register Creators as they arrive for One Spark

Requirements:

  • Attend one-hour training in March (dates TBD)
  • Strong customer service skills
Customer Service And Registration Squad (CSARS)

Customer Service And Registration Squad (CSARS)

One Spark’s CSARS will be on the front lines of making sure attendees have a great experience. CSARS will help attendees register to vote, answer questions and help attendees find their way around the festival. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Answer attendees questions about One Spark and the voting process
  • Help One Spark attendees find their way around
  • Staff customer service kiosks/tables located throughout the festival

Requirements:

  • Attend one-hour training in March (dates TBD)
  • Medium to advanced computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
Guides

Guides

One Spark Guides will be on the front lines of making sure attendees have a great experience. If you love interacting with people, being a Guide is right up your alley. Guides will answer questions attendees have and help attendees find their way around the festival. Guides will also be responsible for alerting One Spark staff or the proper authorities to any problems that arise in their assigned area. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Alert One Spark staff or other proper authorities to any problems in assigned area
  • Help One Spark attendees find their way around and answer One Spark-related questions
  • Keep assigned area clean

Requirements:

  • Background check
  • Familiarity with downtown Jacksonville
  • Strong customer service skills and all around happy personality
Home Hosts

Home Hosts

This year, we’re also offering a Home Host program for out-of-town Creators.The Home Host program is designed to help out-of-town creators find a place to stay while participating in One Spark. Different from the JAX Ambassadors, Home Hosts sign up to open their homes to Creators to stay while in Jacksonville. You do not have to be an Ambassador in order to be a Home Host. Home Hosts and Creators are matched based on an information sheet that both parties fill out. Home Hosts must have proper sleeping areas for Creators including a bed and or air mattress/ couch. Preferably, Home Hosts live in or close to downtown. Creators must pass background checks to be approved for the Home Host program. If you’re interested in hosting a Creator at your home for the five days of the festival, please fill out this online application.

Duties:

  • Alert One Spark staff to any One Spark-related problems your assigned Creators may be experiencing
  • Help your assigned Creators find their way around
  • Make sure your respective Creators have a fantastic time in Jacksonville

Requirements:

  • Able to host Creators in your home from April 8-14, 2014
  • Attend one-hour training in March 2014 (dates TBD)
  • Background Check
  • Care about acting as a great host for Creators at One Spark
  • Clean bathroom and sleeping areas
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about Jacksonville
  • Personal mobile phone
JAX Ambassadors

JAX Ambassadors

JAX Ambassadors are advocates for our city, ready to show out-of-town Creators why Jacksonville is awesome. Ambassadors will be the point-of-contact for Creators from out-of-town for any Jacksonville-related questions. Ambassadors will also be responsible for alerting One Spark staff to any problems that your assigned Creators may be experiencing. Ambassadors are encouraged to be creative - take your assigned Creators on a tour of Downtown, Riverside or the Beaches, take them to your favorite restaurant, meet them for cocktail hour, whatever it takes to make sure they love Jacksonville! The expected time commitment is 5+ hours the week of the festival and to be on-call for any inquiries your assigned Creators have. This is a really cool way to get to know some of the One Spark Creators first hand!

  • Alert One Spark staff to any One Spark-related problems your assigned Creators may be experiencing
  • Help your assigned Creators find their way around
  • Make sure your respective Creators have a fantastic time in Jacksonville

Requirements:

  • Attend one-hour training in March 2014 (dates TBD)
  • Background Check
  • Be on-call while your Creators are in town, answering and responding promptly to all calls and emails from assigned Creators
  • Passionate and knowledgeable about Jacksonville
  • Personal mobile phone
Media Moguls

Media Moguls

We will be using all types of media to promote and document One Spark. We need talented graphic designers, photographers, videographers and video editors to help us create innovative social media and web content. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shifts for photographers and videographers are four hours (shorter shifts will be available for small events leading up to One Spark).

Duties:

  • Assist in the creation of social media and web content
  • Document the festival using photography and videography
  • Interview attendees and creators about their experience at One Spark

Requirements:

  • Attend one-hour training in March 2014 (dates TBD)
  • Background check
  • Graphic design experience a plus
  • Intermediate photography or videography experience
  • Photographers and videographers need the ability to stand for four-hour shifts
  • Radio or TV experience a plus
  • Video editing experience a plus
Pre-Game Crew

Pre-Game Crew

One Spark will cover a large swath of Downtown Jacksonville and needs Volunteers to help setup and breakdown the festival! Creators will also need assistance setting up in their assigned Venues before the festival. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Assist in setup and breakdown of Lounges, Stages, Venues and Voting & Information Kiosks
  • Assist Creators in setting up in their assigned Venues

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or more
  • Ability to stand for four-hour shifts
  • Background check
  • Must be able to work a four-hour shift at least one of these days: April 7, 8, 9 or 13, 2014
Stage Crew

Stage Crew

The Stage Crew will support One Spark’s Community First Pitch Decks and music stages by helping Creators set up and keeping the shows running on time. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Assist in setup and breakdown of stages
  • Help bands and Creators get set up
  • Keep stages running on schedule
  • Troubleshoot problems that arise

Requirements:

  • Ability to lift 20 pounds or more
  • Ability to stand for four-hour shifts
  • Attend one-hour training in March 2014 (dates TBD)
  • Background check
  • Stagehand experience in event or concert setting
Tech Crew

Tech Crew

The Tech Crew will support any tech needs for One Spark’s Voting & Information Kiosks, lounges and Community First Pitch Decks. There will be day and evening shifts to choose from. Minimum shift is four hours.

Duties:

  • Assist Customer Service and Registration Squad (CSARS) and Guides with voting application issues
  • Assist in setup of wireless hotspots and computer-based presentations on Community First Pitch Decks
  • Troubleshoot tech problems that arise involving computer malfunctions and the voting application on both computers and smart phones

Requirements:

  • Ability to stand for four-hour shifts
  • Ability to solve tech problems on the fly
  • Attend one-hour training in March 2014 (dates TBD)
  • Background check
  • Strong tech background or knowledge specifically as it relates to wireless networking, mobile apps and general applications

Outreach Team

Networking ace? Social media titan? Join the Outreach Squad and help spread the word about the hottest thing in the innovation game. This crew will help spread regular messaging updates, plus represent One Spark as we interact with a variety of different organizations. Volunteers from any area code are welcome to join this team. You can expect to help spread our message over social media, attend events on behalf of One Spark and create innovative social media and web content. NOTE: All Volunteers must be at least 18 years old.

Communications Coalition & Promo Posse

Communications Coalition & Promo Posse

Social media gurus from Jacksonville and out-of-town are welcome to join the Coalition to promote One Spark via social media and individuals networks. Coalition members will receive an email once a week with One Spark updates and suggested social media content to promote to your network(s). Promo Posse members will receive promotional materials for use at events, organization meetings, etc.

Duties:

  • Promote One Spark through your individual network(s)
  • Push out social media content provided by One Spark

Requirements:

  • Basic social media skills
  • Regular access to computer & internet
  • Dependability and consistency between your network(s) and the One Spark brand
