Tiger Trail

The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens has designed an innovative, unique habitat for tigers. For the first time anywhere, zoo tigers will be able to leave their enclosure to roam a fortified trail system. The trails will extend around and through a new Asia precinct, presenting the tigers with novel choices and options, and our guests with unprecedented opportunities to experience the big cats up close and personal.

Our new approach has been inspired by the behavior of wild tigers. Field research reveals a big predator’s natural drive to move. Wild tigers patrol their home range, reinforce their hunting grounds and protect their territory from intruders. Tigers also use habitat corridors to seek mates and new range lands. Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens’ new design will recognize and channel natural walking behavior to produce a remarkable, active experience for our tigers and guests.
